John Chantarasak draws influences from both his Thai and British heritage to create dishes which marry traditional Thai cooking with British flavours. Raised in the Wye Valley in Wales, he trained at the Cordon Bleu in Bangkok before spending some time working at Nahm, at the time rated the best restaurant in Asia.
John returned to the UK in 2014 and helped launch the award winning Thai restaurant, Som Saa. Twice shortlisted for the Young British Foodie awards ‘Chef of the Year, he played an important part in the team that helped Som Saa transition from pop up to permanent restaurant.
John left Som Saa in 2018 to focus on his personal project AngloThai, which he runs with his wife. AngloThai has held pop ups in numerous locations and the project has seen John collaborate with several acclaimed chefs across the UK, Europe, Asia and North America.
Most recently John has appeared on The Great British Menu.
